Water Studies
Water Studies is a body of work centred on water as a medium of response. A water surface cannot stay still. When it is touched, an image starts to form inside the movement. Image rises through a disturbance, holds for an instant, then returns to the liquid condition that produced it. The work follows that interval, when matter begins to draw by itself and perception has to remain close to what is already changing.
Across the series, water carries the image, which appears through contact, through rhythm, through the pressure of an event on a body. Image remains tied to what is happening. What is perceived and its cause stay together for a brief period of time before the surface opens again.
This series of works looks at the ways in which matter produces temporary images, and at the conditions that allow those images to emerge. Each work approaches water as a medium where movement, resonance and perception merge.
